quantum-time-transfer (scenario kind)

Scenario kind of the engine v0.38.0, family Clocks, timing and holdover. Advisory: analysis output from a research and engineering tool, not type-approved navigation equipment and not a safety-of-life service. Every label here is the engine's or the verification matrix's; a kind is MODELLED unless the matrix says otherwise (how a label is earned: the README's Evidence section).

What it does#

MODELLED trusted-quantum-timing chain: an end-to-end quantum (optical-lattice clock + entanglement/single-photon link) vs classical (CSAC + RF two-way) time-transfer budget, a reused timing protection level + a delay/replay-attack security FoM (1-P_md), a clock-anomaly detection probability + CUSUM latency, and the quantum-vs-classical trade as honest TradeEvidence with a representativeness + gaps-to-flight record. Illustrative public-source device/link params; models the class, no TRL/flight/certification claimed.

One run of scenarios/quantum-time-transfer.toml summarises as: quantum-time-transfer | quantum chain 1.233e-12s vs classical 5.292e-9s | PL 555.24 ns | security Pd 1.000 (Pfa 1e-3) | anomaly Pd 0.761 | trade quantum wins 2/2 | MODELLED

Evidence#

No matrix row names this kind by name; the label on its result is the engine's own, above.

The rows the run itself exercised, with the oracle the matrix gives each (the public sources are named there):

  • VALIDATED Tabular-CUSUM detector worst-case detection latency (⌊h/(z−k)⌋+1) and out-of-control average run length, used by the timing-protection-level and spoof monitors. Oracle (ExternalDataset): Published tabular-CUSUM ARL: Siegmund (1985) Brownian-motion approximation (Hawkins & Olwell 1998, eq. 3.7) cross-anchored to Montgomery, Introduction to Statistical Quality Control (Wiley) ARL tables for k=½, h∈{4,5}; deterministic latency matched exactly to a first-passage oracle. The composed TPL bound stays MODELLED
  • MODELLED Two-way/TWSTFT (Sagnac), GNSS common-view, PPP; link-jitter→range. Oracle (ExternalDataset): Sagnac magnitude checked against an authoritative PUBLISHED VALUE — N. Ashby, 'Relativity in the GPS', Living Reviews in Relativity 6:1 (2003), Eq. 1.29: an eastward equatorial circumnavigation accrues 207.4 ns (2ωA_E/c²); kshana reproduces 207.386 ns. Independently corroborated by RTKLIB 2.4.3 geodist() (Takasu, BSD-2-Clause), which carries the same 2Aω/c² geometry. The composite BIPM TWSTFT transponder/common-view/
  • MODELLED Deterministic, scenario-hashed, SBOM + cross-platform golden gates. Oracle (ExternalDataset): SBOM conformance to the official CycloneDX 1.5 JSON Schema (+ valid SPDX identifiers) — an external published standard, zero validation errors over the full dependency graph; the FoM-determinism / byte-reproducibility part remains a pinned self-consistency check, so the row stays MODELLED
  • PARTNER Not provided — performance models only; cold-atom/clock hardware is a partner's. Oracle (NoneKind): none: a partner-owned discipline, with no module and no test by design
  • MODELLED One reproducible TradeEvidence object (fixed frame: scenario+seed+engine; common per-FoM quantum-vs-classical values with polarity-correct benefit, optional 95%. Oracle (InternalConsistency): Closed-form benefit/winner identities + faithful wrap of the existing quantum_trade::TradeResult; honesty tied to the representativeness ledger and verification labels

Limitations#

What the run's own report says is not modelled or not validated:

  • MODELLED trusted-quantum-timing chain: an end-to-end quantum (optical-lattice clock + entanglement/single-photon link) vs classical (CSAC + RF two-way) time-transfer budget, a reused timing protection level + a delay/replay-attack security FoM (1-P_md), a clock-anomaly detection probability + CUSUM latency, and the quantum-vs-classical trade as honest TradeEvidence with a representativeness + gaps-to-flight record. (kind catalogue (kshana kinds --json))
  • Trusted quantum timing — end-to-end time-transfer chain, secure dissemination, anomaly detection and a quantum-vs-classical trade. MODELLED; illustrative, public-source device/link parameters; models the class, no TRL/flight claim. (scenario file comment, lines 1 to 3)
  • Time-transfer error budgeting is MODELLED, not validated: a sub-claim is externally checked, but the whole capability composes modelled pieces, so the capability stays Modelled. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
  • Reproducibility & software assurance is MODELLED, not validated: a sub-claim is externally checked, but the whole capability composes modelled pieces, so the capability stays Modelled. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
  • Quantum-vs-classical trade evidence (common shape) is MODELLED, not validated: checked against its own closed-form / analytic identity — catches transcription and coefficient errors, but is not an external oracle. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
  • Trusted quantum timing (time transfer + secure dissemination + anomaly) is MODELLED, not validated: checked against its own closed-form / analytic identity — catches transcription and coefficient errors, but is not an external oracle. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
