lunar-time-budget (scenario kind)

Scenario kind of the engine v0.38.0, family Lunar and cislunar. Advisory: analysis output from a research and engineering tool, not type-approved navigation equipment and not a safety-of-life service. Every label here is the engine's or the verification matrix's; a kind is MODELLED unless the matrix says otherwise (how a label is earned: the README's Evidence section).

What it does#

MODELLED end-to-end Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC) time-error budget: the seven LTC error terms assembled as time-error curves x_i(τ) over a whole averaging-time grid, root-summed into x_Σ(τ), and the clock-vs-frame CROSSOVER τ at which the growing clock term overtakes the constant real-time frame-realisation term (below it the budget is frame-limited, above it clock-limited) — the honest answer to the single-τ artifact. The τ-slopes are closed-form and analytically checkable (clock τ^{+1/2}/τ^{+1}, floors τ^0, measurement τ^{-1/2}) and the clock rows reproduce the published one-day clock specs (crate::clock_specs); the RF/optical-link, frame-realisation, relativistic-residual and ephemeris floor MAGNITUDES are Modelled budget allocations (documented defaults, caller-overridable), not measurements. The contribution is the reproducible crossover τ, not a certified per-term number; not certified for operational timekeeping.

One run of scenarios/lunar-time-budget.toml summarises as: lunar-time-budget | clock passive-h-maser | 7-term x_Σ(τ) over 57 τ-points (1–1e7 s) | crossover τ 8.689e4 s (x 1.001e-9 s) | frame floor 1.001e-9 s | clock x(1 d) 0.995 ns (MODELLED)

Inputs#

From the schema (kshana kinds --json):

  • Required fields: none
  • Optional fields: clock, tau_min_s, tau_max_s, points_per_decade, clocks, time_lab

The example scenarios/lunar-time-budget.toml sets, among others:

Field Value Unit
clock passive-h-maser text
kind lunar-time-budget text

Run it#

kshana scenarios/lunar-time-budget.toml

2 bundled scenarios use this kind; the others are in scenarios/.

What it gives#

The scalar results of that run, with the units the engine states:

Result Value Unit
clock passive-h-maser text
crossover_tau_s 86894.284677 s
crossover_x_s 1.0007e-9 s
frame_term_s 1.0007e-9 s

Result label (the engine's): MODELLED end-to-end LTC time-error budget. The τ-slopes are closed-form and analytically checkable (clock τ^{+1/2}/τ^{+1}, floors τ^0, measurement τ^{-1/2}) and the clock rows reproduce the published one-day clock specs; the RF/optical link, frame-realisation, relativistic-residual and ephemeris flo

Evidence#

MODELLED: the verification matrix rows that name this kind.

  • MODELLED One lunar-time-budget run emits a clock-vs-frame crossover row per clock class against a single shared frame term, so the clock is the only variable in the comparison; each row carries the crossover reached two ways -- bisected from the gen
  • MODELLED The optional [time_lab] block of the lunar-time-budget scenario models a lunar reference station clock (default the miniRAFS class, or any named class, or a device card fitted to stated stability points) steered to Coordinated Lunar Time an Tests: lunar_station_time_lab.rs.

The rows the run itself exercised, with the oracle the matrix gives each (the public sources are named there):

  • MODELLED Deterministic, scenario-hashed, SBOM + cross-platform golden gates. Oracle (ExternalDataset): SBOM conformance to the official CycloneDX 1.5 JSON Schema (+ valid SPDX identifiers) — an external published standard, zero validation errors over the full dependency graph; the FoM-determinism / byte-reproducibility part remains a pinned self-consistency check, so the row stays MODELLED
  • MODELLED One lunar-time-budget run emits a clock-vs-frame crossover row per clock class against a single shared frame term, so the clock is the only variable in the comp. Oracle (InternalConsistency): Two different in-codebase computations of the same quantity, not one restated: bisection on the IEEE-1139 power-law curve knows nothing about noise type, while the closed form inverts the dominant type algebraically, so a misclassified noise type or a bad bracket shows as a non-tiny relative difference. The four values also reproduce the paper's published table to half its last printed digit -- but that table was its
  • MODELLED The lunar-time-budget scenario publishes its array-valued outputs as a long-form (grid index, averaging time, term) table alongside the report, so the seven per. Oracle (InternalConsistency): Self-consistency only: the published total is checked against the root-sum-square of the terms in the same file, and the emitted curve reproduces the released p3_time_budget_curve.csv over all 57 points. Both checks share this engine's own term definitions, so neither is independent. The clock term rests on published clock specifications, but the link, frame, relativistic and ephemeris floor MAGNITUDES are documented

Limitations#

What the run's own report says is not modelled or not validated:

  • MODELLED end-to-end LTC time-error budget. The τ-slopes are closed-form and analytically checkable (clock τ^{+1/2}/τ^{+1}, floors τ^0, measurement τ^{-1/2}) and the clock rows reproduce the published one-day clock specs; the RF/optical link, frame-realisation, relativistic-residual and ephemeris floor MAGNITUDES are Modelled budget allocations (documented defaults, caller-overridable), not measurements. The contribut (result label)
  • MODELLED end-to-end Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC) time-error budget: the seven LTC error terms assembled as time-error curves x_i(τ) over a whole averaging-time grid, root-summed into x_Σ(τ), and the clock-vs-frame CROSSOVER τ at which the growing clock term overtakes the constant real-time frame-realisation term (below it the budget is frame-limited, above it clock-limited) — the honest answer to the single-τ artifac (kind catalogue (kshana kinds --json))
  • Honesty: MODELLED. The tau-slopes are closed-form and analytically checkable (clock tau^{+1/2} or tau^{+1}, floors tau^0, measurement tau^{-1/2}) and the clock rows reproduce the published one-day clock specs; but the RF/optical-link, frame-realisation, relativistic-residual and ephemeris floor MAGNITUDES are Modelled budget allocations (documented defaults, caller- overridable), not measurements. The contribution is (scenario file comment, lines 13 to 18)
  • Reproducibility & software assurance is MODELLED, not validated: a sub-claim is externally checked, but the whole capability composes modelled pieces, so the capability stays Modelled. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
  • Per-clock-class lunar time crossover table is MODELLED, not validated: checked against its own closed-form / analytic identity — catches transcription and coefficient errors, but is not an external oracle. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
  • Lunar time-error budget reproducibility is MODELLED, not validated: checked against its own closed-form / analytic identity — catches transcription and coefficient errors, but is not an external oracle. (verification matrix (docs/MODELLED-RATIONALE.md))
